Statistics on Homelessness

The term homeless conjures up images of people sleeping in parks, under bridges or on bus benches; however, the term homeless also applies to individuals or families who are staying in temporary or transitional housing. Some causes include the following:

  • Poverty
  • Disability
  • Lack of safe and affordable housing
  • Loss of a job
  • A health crisis
  • Domestic violence
  • The loss of family support
  • Substance abuse and/or untreated mental illness

These and a myriad of other events can trigger a downward spiral resulting in homelessness. Homelessness affects people of all ages and ethnic groups. Retrieved February 20, 2012 from Current Status of Homelessness in Arizona at Homelessness in Arizona.

Education WorkshopsEducational Workshops

New or updated module workshops are presented two to four times each year to introduce the materials and help volunteer educators become more competent and comfortable in teaching. These workshops provide an opportunity for teachers, or potential teachers to become familiar with educational content matter, the population they will be teaching, and to network, sharing resources, ideas and experiences with their peers.
