Joshua Lloyd, DO: I chose El Rio because of the focus on breaking down barriers to healthcare, whether that is due to cost, language barriers, education, underserved populations, or many other reasons. There are many opportunities to make a difference in the community and it is encouraged to seek ways to improve the systems in which you are involved. Within family medicine, I have a particular interest in diabetes management (especially type 1 diabetes), OMT, sports medicine, and wound care. I hope to utilize these interests as part of a full-spectrum outpatient practice in the future. Outside of medicine, I enjoy time with my wife and kids, soccer, ping pong, running, hiking, many different sports, NBA basketball, and watching movies.
Joshua George, DO: I chose El Rio because of the patient population and location of the program. It’s a personal and professional goal of mine to become at least moderately fluent in Spanish and the patient demographics at El Rio are largely Spanish speaking. I’m interested in pursuing a Sports Medicine fellowship following residency. I’m also interested in increasing my knowledge of OMT application. When I’m not practicing medicine – I enjoy being outside, whether that’s hiking, playing sports, or just sitting in the sun. I also love spending time with my dog, Daisy, and catching up with friends and family. And of course, sleeping in.
